One-Time Opportunities: Events
Perfect for individuals, families, and corporate groups who want to help occasionally.
Examples:
- Teacher appreciation events
- Campus beautification
- Grandparents breakfast
- Golf tournament

Ongoing Opportunities: Classroom and group volunteer
Work alongside teachers and staff to support students in a supervised group setting.
Examples:
- Classroom helper

High-Responsibility Opportunities: Mentoring, tutoring, and chaperoning
Serve in roles involving one-on-one mentoring or increased responsibility.

Becoming a Volunteer
Step 1—Submit the volunteer app.
- Before you apply, please have the following ready:
- Government-issued ID and social security
- Personal contact information
- Payment for the background check ($34)
- Time to complete: 5-8 min
- There is a $34 application fee, paid during the application process. If you need financial assistance with the fee, please contact the volunteer manager at volunteer@yellowstoneschools.org
- All volunteers complete the same application, which includes authorization for a criminal background check through Raptor.
- Applications remain active for 12 months.
Step 2—Next steps
- Once your application is submitted and your background check is cleared, the volunteer manager will contact you with the next steps based on your selected volunteer role.
- Depending on your opportunity, you may be asked to complete:
- Volunteer orientation
- Online course on child abuse and mandatory reporting training
- An interview
- Reference verification
- We'll guide you through the requirements needed for your role.
Step 3—Receive approval, then volunteer!
- Receive approval.
- Once your application and any required onboarding steps are complete, you'll receive an approval email and can begin volunteering.
- Volunteers may not begin serving until all requirements are completed.

Yes. Volunteer applications and background checks must be renewed every 12 months.
Yes. Every Yellowstone volunteer completes a volunteer application that includes a criminal background check through Raptor.
Background check processing times vary. Some background checks may clear quickly, while others may take longer, depending on how quickly individual counties release records. The volunteer manager will contact you with the next steps once your background check has been cleared.
No. Interviews are required only for certain volunteer roles that involve greater student responsibility.
Not necessarily; Every volunteer receives onboarding appropriate for their role. Training requirements vary depending on the type of volunteer opportunity.
Yes, depending on the role. Returning volunteers in a specific volunteering tier are required to complete a brief online refresher training each year, followed by a short quiz, to review important safety procedures, volunteer expectations, and any policy updates before volunteering.
Yes. Individuals under 18 may volunteer for approved opportunities with prior approval from the volunteer manager. Minor volunteers must complete the Yellowstone volunteer application and select "Minor Volunteer" under Step 4: Volunteer Functions. Additional supervision and participation requirements may apply depending on the volunteer opportunity.
